- Transportation: While we have plentiful parking, for those who prefer not to keep a car, this is by far the best location in Riverdale for availability of public transportation, in all directions.
- Local buses #10 and #20, and Express buses to both the West Side and East Side of Manhattan stop at the door. Express bus #18 is also available to Wall Street during morning and evening rush hours.
- Subways and trains: There is easy access to the IRT subway trains, which are down the hill. The Metro North stop is nearby, within walking distance, with shuttle service available.
- Local car services are available for private door-to-door transportation, both for local travel, or into the rest of the city.
- Stores and conveniences: We have a shopping center across the street, with many convenient services and stores. These include a Post Office, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Chase Bank, restaurants and take-outs, beauty parlors, dry cleaners, stationary store, liquor store, nail salon, pizza parlor, and grocery store.
And most important of all…..Ben’s Market, with its best-in-Riverdale meats, fresh fish, ample fruits and vegetables, groceries, delicatessen, freshly baked goods, daily prepared hot meals and sandwiches, sushi chef, household supplies, delivery service…and even pizza!…a true miracle store!
- Health, Sports and Fitness Club: For everyone who wants to swim, work out in a completely equipped state-of-the-art gym, practice golf, get a massage, play tennis, entertain the kids, enjoy some classes, employ a personal trainer, play basketball, or just relax on the terrace, there is the beautiful Tennis Club of Riverdale (TCR) across the street in the Century building.
- Nursery School: On our block we have the very fine Riverdale Community Nursery School, an excellent facility that has been in existence since 1978. Many local families have sent their children there.
- The Pre-School enrolls children aged 18 months to 2 years. The Pre-Kindergarten is a program for 3- and 4-year olds. It operates during the school year, and also has an 8-week summer program during July and August.
- Teachers are certified in Early Childhood Education and in CPR, and the school is licensed by the NYC Dept of Health.
- The hours for these programs are from 9:30 am to 4 PM; however, children may arrive anytime after 7:30 am, and may bring their breakfast along if they wish, and they can remain for snacks and playtime until 5:30 PM.
- The school strives to build in its students a strong and positive self-image, one that gives them the confidence to function happily and successfully in any group situation. It provides young children with a secure, nurturing, family-style learning environment. Tuition is paid on a weekly basis, and children can enroll anytime during the year if spaces are available.
- Riverdale Senior Center: This important center, which is on the other side of Kappock Street, provides a full range of programs and services for elderly residents in the area.
- A delicious and reasonable lunch is served during the weekday program.
- Offerings include daily social events, weekly shopping trips, visits to restaurants, health counseling, a Pain Support Group, Jewish and Irish cultural programs, discussion groups for all kinds of issues, and movies.
- Fitness and exercise programs include Yoga, Tai Chi, zumba. Classes are given in bridge, computers, pottery, water color painting, creative writing. There is an inter-generational program with neighborhood school children.
- There is also a day program available for people with memory deficit problems.
- A full-time Social Worker is on the staff.
- Location: While we have everything we need right in the vicinity, we are also part of the city. Our location is extremely convenient. Mid-Manhattan is only a 10-minute ride away to the south by car……….and Westchester abuts to the north.
